Memorial Day MURPH

It’s here. A workout we wait all year to crush. It’s Memorial Day Murph!!!!

Every year, this day marks a complete cycle of training and dedication to your fitness and lifestyle. We get the chance to put ourselves to the test and show our support for those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.

This year looked slightly different due to the current situation but the spirit that Hudson River Athletics brings to the table is still very much alive and well.

“MURPH”

For Time

1 Mile run (20/14 vest if you have it)

100 Pull-ups

200 Push-ups

300 Air Squats

1 Mile run  (20/14 vest if you have it)

* Can partition any way you want except you must keep the run in the beginning and end

Because the gym is closed and we all had limited access to a pull up bar, the Riv coaches each came up with their own special substitute for the 100 pull ups. Coach Bobby chose 100 alt dumbbell snatches, Coach Cody chose a 400m heavy carry, Coach Jay chose 50 strict pull-ups (home bar, door frame etc), Coach Rach chose 100 curls, Coach Brizz chose 100 seated banded rows, Coach Andrew chose 100 ring (or whatever) rows , and Coach Rich chose 100 dumbbell pullovers.

Some members gathered (following social distancing guidelines of course) at the start of the old 701 location Murph mile and then went to Columbus Park for the rest of the workout. Others gathered live virtually, cheering each other on via Zoom, making sure that although apart, no one felt alone.

It was a Choose Your Own Murph Adventure RIV-style!
