August Member of the Month

We’re very happy to welcome Gary Brown to the HRA Member of the Month hall of fame!

What goes into selecting a HRA MOM? Glad you asked. Here is what we consider the cornerstone of being the best version of yourself within the HRA fam:

Gym attendance

Camaraderie with other members

Involved w/ events in & out side of the gym

Having a goal and crushing it

Being a generally pleasant person

Lending a helping hand to members or coaches in the community

Showing unwavering support for the HRA community

Here is what Gary had to say about his experience with all you fine people:

1) What is your favorite thing about The Riv?

Three things: how friendly the most unfriendly-looking people have been, that these are the most demanding workouts I've had, and how friendly those unfriendly-looking people continue to be as I complain daily about how the workout we're about to do is too demanding.

2) What differences have you seen in your body, and health since starting at The Riv

Beneath this fast food facade, I'm definitely stronger for longer, or at least I think I am (we'll see when the dumbbells are doubled and the Assault Bikes return). I got my first pistol squats this summer, and maybe someday I'll figure out dubs and muscle-ups and handstand stuff (or not).

Starting and/or ending my entirely sedentary workday with "fun" in the sun just makes me feel better.

3) Does what you learn in class carry over in any way to your personal life?

At Jay's recommendation, I currently have 12 boxes of Sleepytime Extra tea bags in my cabinets to combat my insomnia. Also swift and harsh (mostly) silent judgement when friends talk about their workouts.

4) What has been your favorite moment at The Riv and what has it meant to you?

Of my nine month tenure, the first day on the Little League field. The Riv was back, in real life, even if everything else was still closed. It was so great to be outside with people again that we all forgave Andrew for the RPM programming those first two weeks.
