November Member of the Month

We’re happy to welcome Thea Zunick to the HRA Member of the Month hall of fame!

Read on to see how the HRA community and culture has impacted her in and outside of the gym:

1) What is your favorite thing about Hudson River Athletics?

My favorite thing about the RIV is the community and diversity of its members. After moving back to the area on March 1 and having the whole world shut down soon after, I was at a loss for community. However, a few months later I was fortunate enough to get connected into the gym. Because we were all working out together on the field, I was able to meet so many members at the very beginning. Each person I met welcomed me with open arms, jumped at the opportunity to partner with me, gave me support and encouragement when I needed it, danced with me to Cody's dope playlists, shared the unwritten rules about the gym, and invited me for long brunches after Saturday field workouts (just to mention a few things).

2) What differences have you seen in your body, and health since starting at The Riv?

I am stronger, I am faster, and I am more positive. I am also making better food and drink choices since joining because I have to fuel my body in order to keep up with these workouts! As someone who grew up as a competitive dancer, I am very in tune with my body, and I can honestly say that I feel stronger than I have ever been. Though I sometimes doubt myself, our incredible coaches (Cody, Andrew, Jay, Bobby) help me break through that mindset continuing to make progress, specifically with my running and lifting.

3) Does training at Hudson River Athletics carry over in any way to your personal life?

Absolutely! My whole mood shifted since I started training at the RIV. It helped me wake up from the fog of quarantine and breathed new life into me that gets me out of bed every day, even for those 7am workouts. I am more productive at work, back to my old social butterfly self, and am a lot happier. I seriously cant stop talking about how much I love this gym, I always manage to work a story about it into pretty much every conversation I have with friends who are not members at the gym. They LOVE it haha.

4) What has been your favorite moment at The Riv and what has it meant to you?

100% the FARM! At one point during our 31 Hero's workout at Flipside, I stopped to look around at this group of incredibly strong humans that I was now a part of. I had only been a member for a month at that point but I already could see how joining this gym was one of the best decisions I had ever made.
